Title I, Part A - Parental Involvement - Key to Academic Success

Parental Involvement is the participation of parents in regular, two-way and meaningful communication involving student academic learning.  Each school must strive to build the capacity of parents to help children achieve high standards.

Countless studies have yielded that children whose parents are actively involved in their education are more likely to get higher grades, and test scores, have better attendance, and feel better about school.  Teachers cannot do it alone.  With active parental involvement, children can develop self-confidence and be better prepared to take on challenges in their future endeavors.  Therefore, it is pertinent that OPSB and OPSB Charter Schools ensure that NO Parent is left Behind!

Please make every available effort to visit the Family Involvement and Resource Center located at 3520 General DeGaulle Drive, Suite 1050, New Orleans, LA 70114 or call 504-304-5675.

NCLB Public School Choice

The federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires school districts to give students at schools identified for “school improvement” the option of transferring to another higher performing school. All students who are eligible for school choice will receive a letter in the mail. Only students who attend a school identified by the Louisiana State Department of Education for “school improvement” are eligible. Being identified for “school improvement” does not mean that the school is being closed. Transferring to a “receiving school” is a parental decision. However, students do not have to attend a different school. The Orleans Parish School Board had only one school identified for school improvement under NCLB for 2009-2010, which was Priestley Charter School of Architecture and Construction. Until further notification Priestley Charter School is the only school identified as an Academically Unacceptable School for the 2010-2011 school year.
